Brief history of about Federal medical centre keffi
The federal Medical Centre Keffi came into existence in July
2000, following the takeover of the former General Hospital
Keffi by the Federal Government. The centre was established with
the vision to
-
Emerge as a centre
of excellence in health care delivery sustained by dedication
to duty, unity of purpose and respect to humanity
-
To be known for
hospitality and high level of professional practices
commensurate with the technological age in delivery of health
services.
-
To establish a
commendable workforce guided by self-less service in an
inter-disciplinary approach with the sole aim of promoting
health for the social and physical needs of the society.
-
To also install
hope in the community by encouraging stakeholders’
participation and patronage for the growth of the centre and
the community.
The hospital was established in 1957 by the defunct Northern
Nigeria Regional Government Headed by late Sir, Ahmadu Bello,
Sardauna of Sokoto. The old General Hospital prior to its
take-over have been managed by the governments of Benue-Plateau,
Plateau and Nasarawa states.
So far, the centre has had three (3) Chief Executives since
inception six years ago. The incumbent assumed office in acting
capacity in May 2002 and was later confirmed in December, same
year.
Location:- The centre is located some 52 kilometers from Abuja.
By virtue of its strategic location on the very busy and high
vehicular traffic along Akwanga-Keffi-Abuja road that links the
North-Eastern, North-Central and South-Eastern road networks to
the Nations’ Capital Abuja, Federal Medical Centre, Keffi is
often referred as the nations’ “Safety Valve” (due to the high
Rate of Road Traffic Accidents along the busy highway).
Furthermore, the fact that the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi is
the nearest to all the tertiary health institutions to the
nation’s seat of power, coupled with its proximity to the
neighboring states of Benue, Plateau, Kaduna, Kogi, and Niger
states, contributes to the increase in the number of referral
cases to the centre.
With a total staff strength close to 1000 and still growing,
there are 3 main broad departments namely Administration,
Clinical Services and Finance. These departments have units as
can seen in the hologram , which render support services so as
to ensure smooth realization of mandates and objectives of the
center. |
